Directions for use
- Adults and children aged twelve years and over should take 1 capsule daily.
For optimal results, take ubiquinol coenzyme Q10 with food. It is not advisable to exceed the above dose unless advised by a healthcare practitioner.
Indications
Coenzyme Q10 is a naturally occurring compound, found in low quantities in certain foods and also produced naturally within the body. There are two types of CoQ10 used in supplements: ubiquinone and ubiquinol. Ubiquinol is bio-identical to over 95%, which means the body doesn’t have to convert it into a usable form – it is already ‘body-ready’. Ubiquinone has to be converted to ubiquinol in order for it to be of use to the body and our ability to do this reduces with age. With a dual role as both a coenzyme in the body’s energy production processes and as an antioxidant, ubiquinol offers benefits for cardiovascular health, energy production within the heart, brain & muscles and protection from free radicals. Ubiquinol is altogether therapeutically superior to standard CoQ10 supplements containing the oxidised form, ubiquinone.
CoQ10 may be able to help with carbohydrate metabolism. Animal studies suggest that animals with diabetes are deficient in CoQ10. Scientific studies using coenzyme Q10 suggest that supplementation may positively influence blood sugar levels. Coenzyme Q10 also supports healthy circulation and aids oxygen transport to the muscles.
Approximately 96% of total CoQ10 in healthy individuals is in the form of ubiquinol. In conditions associated with high levels of oxidative stress, ubiquinol levels are significantly lower. Ubiquinone can be converted by the body to ubiquinol via a multi-step process, but a deficiency in any of the co-factor nutrients (vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 & C) can reduce the conversion.
Ubiquinol is ideal for people whose natural ability to convert it from ubiquinone may be compromised. Ubiquinol production declines in adults after the age of 20 and is significantly compromised after the age of 40. Certain medications such as cholesterol-lowering drugs are also known to reduce ubiquinol levels in the body. Supplementing with ‘body-ready’ ubiquinol bypasses the chemical conversion and reliably delivers higher blood levels of CoQ10.
